eCommerce Website Design and Digital Marketing for a First Nations Artist

Barb's Weaving is a First Nations art business established by Barb Walker, a Wiradjuri woman originally from Wagga Wagga, NSW, now based in Pittsworth, Queensland. Barb specialises in traditional handwoven artwork, including baskets, jewellery and decorative pieces, and shares her cultural knowledge through weaving workshops for schools, community groups and individuals.

We worked with Barb's Weaving to establish a professional online presence, providing eCommerce website design, search engine optimisation (SEO), workshop booking functionality, professional photography and assistance securing an arts grant. The project focused on creating an engaging online platform that showcases Barb's unique artwork, shares her story and provides opportunities for customers to purchase handmade products and participate in weaving workshops.

eCommerce Website Design, SEO and GEO

We designed and developed the Barb's Weaving website, creating a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate online platform that reflects the individuality of Barb's artwork and cultural heritage. The website incorporates an online store, detailed product information, professional photography and dedicated pages showcasing Barb's weaving workshops and artistic journey.

Website design and SEO services included:

- Responsive website design and mobile optimisation.

- eCommerce functionality for online sales of handmade baskets, earrings, necklaces and woven artwork.

- Product categories and dedicated product pages to improve the shopping experience.

- Search engine optimisation targeting relevant handmade art, First Nations weaving and workshop searches.

- Website content development and optimisation.

- Workshop information, event listings and booking functionality.

- Clear navigation and an engaging visual presentation showcasing Barb's artwork and story.

- The website's informative content, structured product information and detailed artist biography also provide a foundation for Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), helping AI-powered search platforms better understand Barb's artwork, workshops, cultural background and business location.

Online Store and Workshop Bookings

An important component of the website was creating opportunities for Barb to sell her artwork online and promote her weaving workshops. The eCommerce store allows customers to browse and purchase original handmade creations, with product photography and descriptions highlighting the individuality of each piece.

Dedicated workshop pages showcase the range of weaving experiences available, including traditional coiling, twining, basket weaving and jewellery making. The website also provides event information and booking pathways, making it easier for interested participants, schools and community organisations to explore Barb's workshops and make enquiries. Combining online retail with workshop promotion provides Barb's Weaving with a versatile digital platform that supports different aspects of the business.

Arts Grant Assistance

We also assisted Barb's Weaving in successfully securing arts grant funding to support the development of the business's online presence. This assistance formed an important part of the project, helping establish the resources needed to develop a professional eCommerce website and showcase Barb's artwork to a wider audience. The project demonstrates how marketing consultancy can extend beyond website design to include practical business development support and identifying funding opportunities.
